LSU
Keeps Streak Going Against UL-Lafayette by Tonia Sharp-Snipes
LSU - 31 UL-Lafayette - 3
For the 22nd time in both schools’ history, they
met this Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.
And for the 22nd time, LSU showed that they are dominant.
LSU is undefeated so far this season -- (2-0) overall and (1-0)
non-conference. ULL were (2-0) and had just come off of an outstanding 17-15
win over LSU had some nice plays sporadically throughout the game. The ball was batted into the air so many times that I began to wonder if I were watching volleyball. In the second quarter, LSU picked up the offense and defense. Only a few seconds into the second quarter, Chris Jones intercepted the ball and ran it back down to the Cajuns’ 23-yard line. This set Trindon Holliday up for the 11-yard touchdown which brought the score to 14-0. Jasper kicked off and ULL answered with a 61-yard drive that lead to the 40-yard field goal kicked by Tyler Albrecht for 3 points making the score now 14-3 LSU with 11:26 left to go in the half. Jasper led the team into halftime with a career long 52-yard field goal that was perfectly kicked right down the middle of the uprights. Before tonight, he had not kicked a field goal any farther than 33 yards. I guess he’s been practicing some. The Tigers started off the second half with a good drive that resulted in a 20-yard touchdown for LaFell. The Cajuns had a few changes to score during the rest of the game, but LSU’s defense managed some very good plays that kept them from scoring anymore points. In the third quarter, Louisiana-Lafayette had first and goal at the 2-yard line. On the 4th down and Harry Coleman forced Undrea Sails to fumble the ball and LSU’s Perry Riley recovered at the 2. It was 1st and 10 from the 2 and LSU were pushed back into the endzone. Officials called it down at the 1 but I (even though I am an LSU fan) watched the replay and I saw that LSU was down in the endzone. The Cajuns got robbed of a safety on that play... in my humble opinion. “He’s a young quarterback,” Miles said of Jefferson, a sophomore with five career starts, on ESPN.com. “He’s still getting comfortable in his mechanics and understanding where he needs to put the football.” Even though most of LSU’s receivers are seniors, the offensive line is full of sophomores and freshmen and is protecting sophomore quarterbacks. All of these guys have talent or they would not be on the starting line. Offensive coordinator needs to work more with those talents to help them shine. The defensive line has more seniors and juniors than the offense. So why is this defense seeming so lost? You watch the game and it’s hard to believe that they are seniors on a college football team. Not many of them have recognizable names. If LSU wants to get anywhere in the conference, then when they play #1 Florida the Tigers need to get on the ball and learn now to use their defense and offense. There is a lot of talent on this young LSU team, but the players are still learning how to use their talent. Submitted 9/20/09 Comment on this article to Comments@informativesports.com
