With all the established titles already on your newsstands and a multitude of internet sites through which a fan can access a world of information, why turn toward Informative Sports to sate your fanatical cravings? You can find the stats most anywhere you click; you can read what writers who are displaced from the average sports fan have to say on a subject.

The problem, however, is that little is revealed from behind the statistics and beyond the pithy quotes. Sports media is so driven by the images that athletic endeavors inspire -- but the analysis, both on television and in digital and traditional print, too frequently devolves into nothing more than fawning admiration without any objective criticism.

So Informative Sports seeks to fill that gap in your coverage, to get behind the numbers to illuminate the whole of a story. We are a forum for informed fans to get informed analysis. This site and, coming down the line, our print edition will both strive to continually break down the stories you can’t find on other sites and in the major magazines.

But further, we are a place where analysis crosses into argumentation. Sports evoke strong feelings in fanatics, breeding schisms among, for instance, those who would argue for a modern-day pitcher and those who would favor the big numbers of a bygone era. Informative Sports is designed to present the counterpoints to these arguments.

Through this discourse, furthermore, we intend to breed a stronger connection between fanatics and those who write to inform them. The biggest problem to date is that, when obvious and glaring gaps in coverage occur or when a fan takes legitimate offense to something which has been written, there is little to no redress for that fan’s grievances.

We want to change that. The greatest means of securing accountability, in a society where freedom of the press too often means freedom from criticism, is to force the writer to face and embrace criticism. That is why, on every article posted here by our staff, there is an email address through which you can directly contact the person who penned the piece. Rather than casting futile emails to a writer at another magazine, which inevitably gets ignored, our writers are accessible. Disagree with something they’ve written? You will have the ability to immediately contact them.

Sports play a big role in how our society runs, both locally and globally; no pursuit cuts across so many borders and cultures. So with that, welcome to the launch of Informative Sports. We are in our nascent stages right now, but as the site develops and print issues begin to come off the presses, we will continue to present to you breakdowns and stories you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

Dive in, enjoy the writing... and don’t forget to contact our writers whether you love or hate what they have presented. Graduate to a new age of sports journalism -- welcome to Informative Sports!
